Peugeot Partner Common Problems, Service Intervals & Fault Codes (2015–2017)
Share
Introduction
The Peugeot Partner (2015–2017) is a practical and popular light commercial van widely used by tradespeople and small businesses across the UK. It's generally reliable, but there are a number of recurring issues that owners and fleet managers should be aware of. This guide covers the most common Partner problems, the recommended service schedule, and typical fault codes.
Common Problems with the Peugeot Partner (2015–2017)
1. DPF Blockage
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is one of the most frequently reported issues on the Partner, particularly on vans used for short urban journeys. Regular longer runs at higher revs help the DPF regenerate. A blocked DPF will trigger a warning light and reduce performance.
2. EGR Valve Failure
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve can become clogged with carbon deposits, causing rough running, loss of power, and increased fuel consumption. Cleaning or replacing the EGR valve is a common repair on the 1.6 HDi engine.
3. Clutch Wear
Stop-start urban driving takes a heavy toll on the clutch. A high biting point or slipping clutch on a high-mileage Partner is a sign it needs replacement.
4. Power Steering Failure
Some Partners suffer from electric power steering (EPS) faults, causing heavy steering or a warning light. This is often a software issue or a faulty steering column module.
5. Sliding Door Mechanism Issues
The rear sliding door mechanism can become stiff or fail to latch properly, particularly on higher-mileage examples. Lubricating the runners and checking the latch mechanism usually resolves this.
Peugeot Partner Service Intervals
- Engine oil & filter: Every 12 months or 12,500 miles (use 5W-30 low SAPS for diesel)
- Air filter: Every 2 years or 25,000 miles
- Fuel filter (diesel): Every 2 years or 25,000 miles
- Brake fluid: Every 2 years
- Coolant: Every 5 years
- Timing belt (1.6 HDi): Every 5 years or 75,000 miles — do not exceed this interval
- DPF: Monitor warning lights; carry out a forced regeneration if blocked
Common Peugeot Partner Fault Codes
- P2002 – DPF efficiency below threshold. The DPF may need a forced regeneration or replacement.
- P0400 – EGR flow malfunction. Clean or replace the EGR valve.
- P0087 – Fuel rail pressure too low. Check the fuel pump, fuel filter, and injectors.
- P0299 – Turbocharger underboost. Inspect the turbo, boost pipes, and actuator.
- U0126 – Lost communication with steering angle sensor. Often linked to EPS faults.
